Hungarian[edit]
Pronunciation[edit]
Etymology 1[edit]
Probably from a South Slavic language or Slovak kadár. Compare dialectal Slovene kadar (“cooper”). Probably from Proto-Slavic *kadъ (“tub”). The noun kádár is definitely not from the noun kád (“tub”) because the suffix -ár is characteristic in words created during the Hungarian language reform, which took place in the 18th–19th centuries.[1][2]
