Etymology
[edit]From Middle Cornish kyvelak, from Proto-Brythonic *kėfɨlọg, perhaps derived from *kėfɨl (“horse”) owing to the similarity between the bird's call and the snort of a horse. Cognate with Breton kefeleg and Welsh cyffylog.
