Inherited from Old Catalan *lentiyla (plural attested as lentiyles), from Vulgar Latin *lenticla (compare Occitan lentilha, French lentille, Spanish lenteja), syncopated form of Latin lenticula, diminutive of lēns. Compare lentícula, a borrowed doublet.
