From Proto-Cushitic *lubb- (heart, soul), from Proto-Afroasiatic *lib- (heart).[1] Cognates include Afar lùbbi, Khonso luppoota, Rendille rubey, El Molo rupaiʔ, Burji lubbóo.[2]
