magneto-optic effect (plural magneto-optic effects)

  1. (electromagnetism, optics) The property changes (i.e. polarization, spectrum, phase, intensity) in an electromagnetic wave when it propagates through a medium that has been altered by the presence of a quasistatic magnetic field.
