Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Algonquian *pemihθenwi (“to flow”). Cognates include Cree ᐱᒥᐦᑎᐣ (pimihtin, “it flows along”), Menominee pemēhnen (“it flows by”).
- /pëm-/ (preverb): along, forth, by; continuously, regularly.
- /-pehële/ (verb final): flow, move, be in a state (liquid)
- /-w/ (suffix): third person suffix
