From Pali saṃsaya (doubt), from Sanskrit संशय (saṃśaya, doubt; uncertainty; irresolution; hesitation). Cognate with Khmer សង្ស័យ (sɑngsay), Lao ສົງໃສ (song sai), Thai สงสัย (sǒng-sǎi).
