Probably ultimately from Proto-Afroasiatic *-tâ- (to be hot) and Proto-Afroasiatic *tsim- (plant), compare with Bura tàtàsi, Duwai ǹjìtta, Muyang tàtàsì, Miya tàtā̀sáy, Vame tàtàshí, Doublet of àttār̃ugū and Doublet of cìtta.
