From tânăr (young) + -ețe, from -eață, possibly from a Vulgar Latin *teneritia, from Latin tener. Compare Aromanian tinireatsã, Italian tenerezza, Old Sicilian tinirizza, Catalan tendresa, French tendresse, Spanish and Portuguese terneza.
