Etymology[edit]

Probably from Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰengʰ- (to step) or from a duplication of another related root (compare *ǵʰeh₁- (to go)). Cognate with Proto-Germanic *ganganą.

žeñgti (third-person present tense žeñgia, third-person past tense žeñgė)

  1. (intransitive) to step
  2. (intransitive) to pass, to cross through
    per Rubikòną žeñgtito cross the Rubicon [river]
