From Old Persian [script needed] (bāzu), from Proto-Iranian *bājus, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *bʰaHȷ́ʰúš, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰeh₂ǵʰus. Cognate with Avestan 𐬠𐬁𐬰𐬎 (bāzu), Sanskrit बाहु (bāhu), Ancient Greek πήχυς (pḗkhus, forearm). Also akin to Old Armenian բազուկ (bazuk), an Iranian borrowing.
