From Proto-Turkic *kidiŕ (felt).

Cognate with Old Turkic kidiz (felt), Bashkir кейеҙ (keyeź), Kyrgyz кийиз (kiyiz), Southern Altai кийис (kiyis), Uzbek kigiz, Turkish kiyiz, etc.
