From Proto-Turkic *yeñgül (light; easy).

Cognate with Old Uyghur [script needed] (jeŋil, easy); Bashkir еңел (yeñel), Tatar җиңел (ciñel), Kazakh жеңіл (jeñıl), Kyrgyz жеңил (jeŋil), Crimean Tatar yengil, Kumyk енгил (yeñil, light; easy), Azerbaijani yüngül (light), Turkish yeğni, Uzbek yengil, Khakas ниик (niik), Shor ниик, Western Yugur žig, Chuvash ҫӑмӑл (śămăl, light; easy).
