Inherited from Proto-Turkic *ič- (to drink).[1]

Cognate with Old Turkic 𐰃𐰲 (ič-), Chuvash ӗҫ (ĕś), Khalaj içmək, Turkish içmek, Bashkir эсеү (esew) and Yakut ис (is).
