From Middle Persian [script needed] (ʾlws /⁠arus⁠/, white), from Proto-Iranian *aurša- (compare Avestan 𐬀𐬎𐬭𐬎𐬱𐬀 (auruša, white), Ossetian урс (urs, white)), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Harušás (compare Sanskrit अरुष (aruṣa)).
