From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (bcšk'), 𐫁𐫉𐫏𐫢𐫐 (bzyšk /⁠bizešk⁠/, doctor, physician), ultimately from Proto-Iranian *bišajkah. Compare Iranian borrowing Old Armenian բժիշկ (bžišk). Further related to Sanskrit भिषज्यति (bhiṣajyati, to heal), भिषज् (bhiṣaj, curing; medicine; doctor).
