From Aramaic אִילָנָא (ʾīlānā), from Akkadian 𒀠𒆷𒀭 (ʾallānu, alyānu, oak; acorn), from Sumerian 𒄑𒀠𒆷𒈝 (allanum, oak; acorn, acorn-shaped); compare Hebrew אֵלוֹן (elón, great tree, oak).
