Inherited from Sanskrit কঙ্কাল (kaṅkāla, skeleton), from Proto-Indo-European *kenkēl- (kneecap; joint). Cognate with Chittagonian কেঁইল, Rohingya 𐴑𐴠𐴣𐴞𐴓 (keñil) / كࣹاِل / keñil, English heel.
