From Low German Köm (caraway), contracted (as [køːm] < [køːmm̩] < [køːmn̩]) from older Kömen, from Middle Low German kȫmen, from Proto-West Germanic *kumīn, from Latin cuminum, from Ancient Greek κύμινον (kúminon). Doublet of Kümmel.
