Etymology[edit]
From porn (“pornography”) + 2.0 (“a second major version of something”), by analogy with Web 2.0 (“the second generation of the World Wide Web, especially the movement away from static webpages to dynamic and shareable content, social networking, and online collaboration”).
Proper noun[edit]
- (Internet, slang) The generation of pornographic websites on the Internet hosting user-generated (amateur) content, in contrast to the Web 1.0 generation of largely static webpages and ostensibly professional pornography.
Usage notes[edit]
- Because Porn 2.0 was coined by analogy with Web 2.0, there is usually no Porn 1.0; instead, Web 1.0 is often used even in the context of the Internet pornography of that era.
