[edit]Borrowed from Old Median *spiθrah, from Proto-Iranian *cwiθráh, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ćwitrás. Doublet of *siçah (“white”), whence borrowing Sanskrit सीस (sī́sa, “lead”). Cognate with Sanskrit श्वित्र (śvitrá, “white, whitish”).[1]
