Talk:dreamboat

I've always been troubled by this word. To be sure, I have seen this word used in siutations as described in the definition. One example would be the cover of People Magazine (September 10, 1995 issue asked: "JFK: Man with a plan or dreamboat adrift?" But this word seems to be a corruption of "Dream Beau." Wouldn't "Dream Beau" make more sense? I can't think of any explanation where dreamboat would be logical.

I have heard this term used several times in reference to woman.. anyone else concur?

The theme song for the American TV series "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis" (debuting 1959) enumerates various types of women the male teenager Dobie might fall for, and includes this lyric: "Is she any kind of dreamboat at all?" Until I encounted this usage example in 2015, I'd never previously heard "dreamboat" applied to females; indeed, it was curiosity over whether the word is normally gender-specific that caused me to look it up here. 99.230.122.67 23:18, 23 January 2015 (UTC)ClassicTVfan
