Etymology[edit]
Inherited from Old Galician-Portuguese achãar, from Late Latin applānāre (“to flatten”), from plānus.[1][2] Doublet of aplanar.
Compare Galician achaiar and Spanish allanar. By surface analysis, a- + chão + -ar.[3][4]
