[edit]Borrowed from a descendant of Proto-Northern Luzon *alipən, from Proto-Philippine *qadipən (“slave”), doublet from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *qudipən (“slave”), which is possibly a suffixed form of *qudip (“to live”). Compare Pamplona Atta ajjipan, Bikol Central uripon, Cebuano ulipon, Maguindanao ulipen, Maranao oripen, and Tausug īpun.
