From Ancient Greek ἀνα- (ana-, up to, thoroughly) + σάρξ (sárx, flesh, body), short for ὕδρωψ ἀνὰ σάρκα (húdrōps anà sárka, literally dropsy throughout the flesh). Compare hyposarca.
