Etymology[edit]
From Andalusia + -ite, after the erroneous belief that it was from Andalusia.

- (mineralogy) An aluminium nesosilicate mineral, Al2SiO5, which can be cut into a gem and displays strong pleochroism, shifting between red, green, and yellow.
