From post-classical Latin archaiologus or its etymon Byzantine Greek ἀρχαιολόγος (arkhaiológos), from Ancient Greek ἀρχαιο- (arkhaio-) + -λογος (-logos). By surface analysis, archéologie +‎ -logue.
