[edit]From Javanese ꦧꦿꦤ꧀ꦠꦱ꧀ (brantas, “to wipe out, to remove”), from Old Javanese rantas (“broken, severed, snapped”). Compare Minangkabau barantas, Malay banteras, berantas, Classical Malay بنترس (banteras), بنترس (berantas).
