Etymology

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish بالعكس (bilʿaks, bilʿakis, on the contrary),[1][2] from Arabic بِالْعَكْس (bi-l-ʕaks), from بِـ (bi-) +‎ اَلْ (al-) +‎ عَكْس (ʕaks),[3] equivalent to bil- +‎ akis (reflection).
