Inherited from Ottoman Turkish طوغمق (doğmak, to be born, to rise), from Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (doğ-, to be born, arise), from Proto-Turkic *tog-.

  1. (intransitive) to be born

  2. (intransitive) to rise; of a celestial body, to appear to move upwards from below the horizon of a planet as a result of the planet's rotation.
    Uyandığımda daha Güneş doğmamış idi.The Sun hadn't yet risen when I woke up.
