Icelandic[edit]

Pronoun[edit]

einhvað

  1. misspelling or misconstruction of eitthvað

Usage notes[edit]

This is an erroneous spelling (or erroneous construction) of eitthvað. It is influenced by the word's masculine and feminine form einhver (it is difficult to distinguishing between the sounds [n̥] and [h] in this position) and by the fact that the dative and genitive form of eitthvað begin with ein-. Einhver has an analogous misspelling: eitthver.

This misspelling is often associated with teenagers, but it also occasionally makes its way into newspapers columns by more experienced writers. It is however always regarded as erroneous rather than just non-standard.
