From Proto-Italic *farkjō (to stuff), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰr̥kʷ-yé-ti, probably from Proto-Indo-European *bʰrekʷ- (to stuff) and cognate with frequēns, Ancient Greek φράσσω (phrássō).
