From Dutch geluk, from Middle Dutch geluc, further origin unknown. Found only in West Germanic (as a word of native origin). Compare English luck, West Frisian gelok, German Glück, Yiddish גליק (glik), Norwegian Nynorsk lukke, Swedish lycka, Danish and Norwegian Bokmål lykke.
