From Proto-Vietic *kr-haːk, from Proto-Mon-Khmer *khaak ~ *khaik; cognate with Proto-Bahnaric *ghaːk, Khmer ខាក (khaak) and Khasi kyrkhah (phlegm), ultimately onomatopoeic.
