legitimate interest (plural legitimate interests)

  1. (law) A type of legal right protected under Italian law in addition to subjective rights that confers legitimacy to certain administrative powers.
  2. (law) A type of clause included in some contracts to allow access to private data.

      The legitimate interest, also know as the 'balance of interest clause' allows a relatively mroe flexible area (when compared with the other bases of legitimation) within which data controllers can process data lawfully.
