Cognate with Old Frisian monia, Old Saxon manōn (Dutch manen), Old High German manōn (German mahnen). The Indo-European root is also the source of Ancient Greek μένος (ménos), Latin mens, Welsh mynnu, Russian мнить (mnitʹ), Lithuanian minti.
