Etymology

From Proto-Finnic *molëmbat, equivalent to mo- + -l(a/e)- +‎ -mmat pl (comparative suffix). The initial component is the pronominal stem mo-, from Proto-Finnic *mo-. The nature of the middle component is uncertain, but may have a cognate in Eastern Mari моло (molo).

Usage notes

In standard language, only the plural forms are used, with the singular form molempi- only appearing in compounds. However, in colloquial language, the singular forms are also used independently (much like how kumpikin works in the standard language). See molempi for more.
