Etymology[edit]
From Latin nebula, through a contracted Vulgar Latin form *nebla. Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *nébʰos (“cloud”). Compare Sicilian negghia, Venetian nebia, Spanish niebla, Romanian negură and Aromanian negurã. Doublet of nebula, which was borrowed.
