Inherited from Ancient Greek εὐωδία (euōdía) with synizesis of <ια> to avoide hiatus. From εὐώδης (euṓdēs) < εὐ (eu, well) + -ώδ(ης) (from ὄζω (ózō, smell) < ὄδ-jω).
