Etymology

Most likely a voiced doublet of Proto-Slavic *-skъ, occurring in roots ending in a voiced consonant or in expressive roots - for emphasis.

Also appears as a root coda in words such as Proto-Slavic *mozgъ (brain), Proto-Slavic *drozgъ (thrush) from Proto-Indo-European *-sgʰos.
