- @Calak: as I said somewhere else, when there are isolated words in the Caucasus and in Armenia, they are usually unidentified Iranian borrowings. I never liked the native Northeast Caucasian origin, as 'round' > 'floorcloth' is a weird semantic change. Cabolov, vol I, page 123, separates the sense "leaf", attaching it to Persian بلگ (balg). Are you sure it is from '*var-' to cover? --Vahag (talk) 15:47, 4 October 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, NK balg "leaf" is from another root, related to Rus волокно, ultimately from Reconstruction:Proto-Indo-Iranian/warkás.
