Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Proto-Indo-European *glakt-, *galakt- (note Hittite 𒂵𒌨𒋻 (galaktar, “soothing substance, nutrient”), from 𒂵𒌨 (galak-, “to soothe”)). The variant γλάγος (glágos) was contracted from the second oblique stem. Related to Latin lac, Old Armenian կաթն (katʻn), Albanian dhallë.
