Etymology

From the mediaeval Byzantine Greek στέλνω (stélnō), from Ancient Greek στέλλω (stéllō, I send) with metaplasm to -νω (-no) in the pattern for φέρω (phérō) > φέρνω (férno, I bring).[1] Furthermore, from Proto-Hellenic *stéľľō, from Proto-Indo-European *stel- (to set).
