Etymology 1[edit]

Probably from Proto-Slavic *vorga, akin to Proto-Slavic *vergti, *vьrgati (to roll; to cast). No exact cognates are attested in other Slavic languages.

Probably further akin to Proto-Germanic *warkiz (ache).
