From добу́ти (dobúty, to obtain, to acquire) +‎ -ок (-ok), from Old Ruthenian добитокъ (dobitok), добытокъ (dobytok), from Proto-Slavic *dobytъkъ. Compare Belarusian дабы́так (dabýtak), Bulgarian добитък (dobitǎk), Macedonian добиток (dobitok), Polish dobytek, Serbo-Croatian доби́так.
