Etymology

From Proto-Turkic *ked-i-m (deverbal noun from *ked-); equivalent to ки- (ki-) +‎ -ім (-ım). Earliest attested in Qarakhanid Turkic. Cognate with Bashkir кейем (keyem), Kyrgyz, Southern Altai кийим (kiyim), Tatar кием (kiyem), Uzbek kiyim (clothing), Turkish giyim, etc.
