Etymology

From Proto-Mordvinic *mujə-, from Proto-Finno-Ugric *muja- (to touch, feel (by hand)). Cognate with Finnish muistaa (to remember, recall), Estonian mõistma (to understand), Eastern Mari муаш (muaš, to find, understand, decide).
