Etymology

From *վախ (*vax, fear) (unattested in Old Armenian but found in the dialects, վախ (vax)), an Iranian borrowing: compare Middle Persian [Term?] (/⁠wāk⁠/), [Term?] (/⁠wāg⁠/), Persian باک (bâk, fear). Further possibly related to Old Armenian պակնում (paknum), պախիմ (paxim, to fear), Northern Kurdish pax (fear), Old Armenian վախ (vax, precipice).
