Etymology

[edit]
Root
ס־ר־ט (s-r-ṭ)

The root ס־ר־ט occurs but postbiblically and its words are utterly Aramaic borrowings or derivations from it.

A native cognate to Arabic شَرَطَ (šaraṭa) would be **שָׂרַט (śāraṭ) but is only included in Bibles by textual corruption and is missing in Biblical Hebrew dictionaries and critical editions of the Tanakh postdating the long nineteenth century.

Pronunciation

[edit]
