From Middle Persian lʾs (/⁠rāh⁠/, road, way) from Proto-Iranian *Hrāθáh, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hrātʰás, from Proto-Indo-European *Hret-. Compare Old Armenian ռահ (ṙah), borrowed from Middle Iranian.
